about andrew

Andrew Frank is a citizen. He is also a whistleblower, an instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and a media relations and environmental communication professional.

Andrew’s letter titled, “Whistleblower’s Open Letter to Canadians,” was read almost 70,000 times in less than a week, and alerted Canadians to the fact that the federal Conservative government of Canada had labelled critics of the Enbridge Northern Gateway oil tanker and pipeline project, “Enemies of the Government of Canada,” and “Enemies of the People of Canada.”

He has an MA in Communication from Simon Fraser University, and a B.A. (Hons) in Radio & Television Arts from Ryerson University where he was the 2004 Gold Medalist for the Faculty of Communication & Design.

Working with progressive clients, including First Nations, environmental groups, political parties and green businesses, Andrew has produced a series of successful media campaigns, including op-eds and stories in national and international media outlets including The Globe & Mail, Reuters, The Canadian Press, Powerplay, Entertainment Tonight and Canada AM to name a few.

Following graduation, Andrew took a position with Canadian Business for Social Responsibility where he was instrumental in redefining notions of corporate social responsibility to include more substantive measures of sustainability. His writings on the subject have been used as part of the business curricula at the University of Guelph and Capilano College.

Notably, for his undergraduate practicum he directed Canada’s first HD Deaf television pilot, a project that was reviewed by the National Film Board and won the 2004 Broadcast Educator’s Association of Canada Award for Best Drama, as well as Ryerson University TARA awards for Best Direction and Best Video Practicum.

For his Masters thesis Andrew studied the relationships between presenters and audiences of An Inconvenient Truth. This research was funded in part by a CGS Master’s Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Other interests include woodworking, beat boxing, stand-up comedy, politics, teaching and surfing.
