About Andrew
Andrew Frank is a communications consultant, writer and Masters candidate in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University, where he studies environmental communication.
Working with progressive clients, Andrew has produced a series of successful media hits, including op-eds and national stories in the Vancouver Sun and Globe and Mail, segments on Entertainment Tonight and Canada AM and a Google Earth viral video that exposed logging practices in Mountain Caribou habitat.
Andrew was the Gold Medalist for the Faculty of Communication & Design at Ryerson University where he studied Radio & Television Arts, and following graduation took a position with Canadian Business for Social Responsibility where he was instrumental in redefining (within the Canadian media and business communities) notions of corporate social responsibility to include more substantive measures of sustainability. His writings on the subject have been used as part of the business curricula at the University of Guelph and Capilano College, and in 2006, he co-authored an op-ed with former Prime Minister and Secretary of State for External Affairs, Joe Clark, extolling the virtues of a national corporate social responsibility brand.
Most notably, for his practicum he directed Canada’s first HD Deaf television pilot, a project that was reviewed by the National Film Board and won the 2004 Broadcast Educator’s Association of Canada Award for Best Drama, as well as Ryerson University TARA awards for Best Direction and Best Video Practicum.
He is currently researching environmental communication relationships between presenters and audiences of An Inconvenient Truth. This research is funded in part by a CGS Master’s Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Other interests include woodworking, beat boxing, stand-up comedy, politics, teaching and surfing.
